Fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have always wanted to reveal more than just clothing through their artistic expression. That’s why they’ve held Alta Moda for the past decade. They recently finished their tenth anniversary of the event in Sicily. Each year the designers pay tribute to many important facets of life.
They Pay Tribute to Beauty

Alta Moda 2021 was held in the romantic city of Venice. The designers wanted to emphasize the contrasts of that city including its joys and sorrows as well as its lights and darks. Models wore brilliant colors, including royal blue and gold as well as bright pinks. Beautiful paintings embellished the skirts of many of the dresses along with colorful rhinestones.
They Invite Celebrities (Dolce & Gabbana)
Celebrities have always been in attendance at Alta Moda events. Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson attended Alta Moda 2012, while Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker attended as the guest of honor at the Dolce & Gabbana Alta Gioielleria Exhibition in New York City in 2018.
Italian actress Sophia Loren was the inspiration for Alta Moda 2016. The event was held in Loren’s native home of Naples, and the actress sat on a red velvet throne front and center.
At Alta Moda 2021, the designers invited the offspring of celebrities to model Dolce & Gabbana designs. Heidi Klum’s daughter Leni modeled a teal mini dress and crown. Sean Combs’ three daughters D’Lila, Chance, and Jesse James modeled tulle minidresses. Monica Bellucci’s daughter Deva Cassel wore a magenta gown with 3D flowers. Christian Bale’s daughter Luka modeled a pale pink gown.
Dame Helen Mirren modeled Dolce & Gabbana gowns at Alta Moda 2021 and 2022. Recently, pop diva Mariah Carey appeared at the event wearing a custom-designed gown.
They Celebrate Gardens
Flowers have always been a mainstay at Alta Moda events. The background for Alta Moda 2014 was an English rose garden, and the dresses at that year’s event resembled cut flowers. Many of the gowns had voluminous striped skirts in different colors.
Alta Moda 2020 once again celebrated a garden’s many colors. Silk flowers covered the heads of many of the models.
They Focus on Culture
Alta Moda’s 2022 event celebrated the Sicilian woman. Many of the models this year wore black, a crucial color in Sicilian culture. Grief and the loss of loved ones are a constant in Siciliy, and as a result, many of the older Sicilian women wore black for the rest of their lives. Dolce & Gabbana captured this passion with models wearing black veils that matched their gowns.
They Create Magic (Dolce & Gabbana)
Models have walked the runway dressed as fairies and Greek and Roman goddesses. Gold is a common color at Alta Moda. The event is always magical.
